Today is the Feast of Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. “The Mission” (1986) is a stunning film about the damning effects of colonialism in Latin America. Jesuits missionaries serve as the unlikely heroes in the film, defending the dignity of the indigenous communities being pushed away from their homes by European colonists. The Jesuits in the film are very loving and very bright, observing the lifestyle of the indigenous rather than insisting their own way.

Happy Feast Day!
